CERTIFICATION OBJECTIVES

The NIAAA athletic administrator certification program objectives are:

  • To promote the professional standards, practices and ethics of athletic administration.
  • To improve the performance of athletic administrators by encouraging participation in a continuing program of professional growth and development.
  • To foster professional contributions to the field of athletic administration.
  • To encourage self-assessment by offering guidelines for achievement in athletic administration.
  • To acknowledge a level of educational training essential for effective athletic administration.
  • To maximize the benefits received by the school community from the leadership provided by certified athletic administrators.

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

REGISTERED ATHLETIC ADMINISTRATOR (RAA)

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher from an accredited institution
  • Approval of Personal Data Form (PDF)
  • State teaching or administrative certification, or ability to qualify
  • Completion of LTC 501 & 502
  • Obtain the verifying signature of a sponsor (athletic administrator, principal, superintendent, state athletic/activities association staff)
  • Read the NIAAA Code of Ethics


CERTIFIED ATHLETIC ADMINISTRATOR (CAA)

  • Bachelor's Degree, or higher, from an accredited institution
  • Approval of Personal Data Form (PDF)
  • State Teaching or Administrative Certification, or ability to qualify
  • Two (2) or more years of experience as an athletic administrator
  • Employed by (or retired from) a school, school district or state high school athletic/activities association in such capacity that the administration of interscholastic athletics is (was) among job responsibilities
  • Successfully complete CAA examination
  • Completion of LTC 501
  • Read the NIAAA Code of Ethics


CERTIFIED MASTER ATHLETIC ADMINSTRATOR (CMAA)

  • Attained CAA designation
  • Approval of Personal Data Form (PDF)
  • Submission of supporting documentation
  • Completion of LTC 501, 503, 504, 505
  • Completion of minimum of two (2) LTC electives
  • Employed so that administration of interscholastic athletics is/was one's primary responsibility
  • All requirements and points earned since CAA designation
  • Complete a practical written exercise
  • Optional program implementation
  • Read the NIAAA Code of Ethics
