     Retired AD’s needed to assist
     with annual WADA Workshop

Information Coordinator, WADA

It won’t be too much longer and the annual WADA Workshop will be here… so the call is going out now to retired Athletic Directors or Activities Directors from around the state, seeking their help.

The 2004 event will be held Saturday thru Tuesday, Nov. 6-9, at the Radisson Paper Valley Hotel in downtown Appleton.  It will be the 38th annual event for the Wisconsin Athletic Directors Association (WADA).

“There are a couple of ways for the retired A.D.’s to stay involved, for them to stay in contact with the organization,” said Don Swanson of Janesville, the Retired A.D.’s Liaison to the WADA Executive Board.  “One is to participate in the 8th annual Retired A.D.’s Golf Outing which will be held at Evergreen Country Club in Elkhorn on Sept. 21.  Another way is to help out at the annual WADA Workshop in November.”

Activities in the 2004 WADA Workshop will start on Saturday, Nov. 6, with the Past Presidents’ Dinner.  Retired A.D.’s are needed to work the registration table on the mornings of Sunday and Monday, Nov. 7 and 8, as well as in several other areas throughout the WADA’s largest event of the school year.

“The biggest thing is we need Retired A.D.’s to help with the registration table on those two days, but, we also need them to help with selling the 50-50 raffle tickets, award door prizes, things like that,” said Swanson, who had been the A.D. at Janesville Craig High School before his retirement.  “It’s certainly not a lot of hard work, it’s a great way to stay connected, and they can have a lot of fun, too.

“It’s important that we have more retired A.D.’s get involved with the WADA Workshop.  Not only will it be a good way for them to stay in touch with other A.D.’s, but it would help us out tremendously,” added Swanson.

To volunteer, contact Swanson via telephone at (608) 752-4851, via regular mail at
29 South Martin Rd., Janesville, WI 53545, or via e-mail at deswan@jvlnet.com.

Specific details regarding the WADA Workshop will be announced.  Some of the basic information is already posted on the WADA web site at www.wadawi.org.

The event on Sunday, Nov. 7, will included Leadership Training Classes, the CAA Exam, booths from numerous exhibitors, the Opening Session with a keynote address by a speaker to be announced, the Distinguished Service Awards Banquet, and the WADA/Vendor Social.

The schedule on Monday, Nov. 8, includes a meeting for new athletic directors, booths from exhibitors, a Women’s A.D. caucus, the Workshop Keynote Address, four sets of mini-sessions, the WADA Awards Luncheon where the presentation will be made of the special awards and A.D. of the Year award, a middle school AD caucus and election, more LTC class offerings, and a Monday Night Football party.

Activities on the final day, Tuesday, Nov. 9, include a Fellowship of Christian Athlete Breakfast, the WADA Annual Meeting, a WIAA Open Forum, and the wind-up luncheon.
